Why The Muddy Road Foundation?

Even though Pine Ridge is the eighth-largest reservation in the United States, it is the poorest. The population of Pine Ridge suffers health conditions commonly found in Third World countries, including high mortality rates, depression, alcoholism, drug abuse, malnutrition and diabetes, among others. Reservation access to health care is limited compared to urban areas, and it is not sufficient. Unemployment on the reservation hovers between 80% and 85%, and 90% of the population live below the federal poverty level.

The Muddy Road Foundation will first raise money for the Lakota Sioux of the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Our first fund raising will be to provide a reading program for the Wounded Knee School. We will then evaluate where else we can best use the funds on the Reservation.
